| QUESTION: What is a spider? |
|
A spider scans a Web site by following the site's hyperlinks until all of the site's elements have been examined. Based on that site evaluation, the spider determines if and how to rank the site in its listings. Spiders are typically programmed to visit sites that have been submitted by their owners as new or updated. Entire sites or specific pages can be selectively visited and indexed. Google is currently the Internet's leading spider-based search engine.
